On 25 Oct 2019, project director Sandy Mehalko (Regional Development & Engagement) was awarded $81,249 by the Maryland Small Business Development Center in support of the Western Maryland Small Business Development Center (FY2020).
On 18 Oct 2019, project director Kara Rogers Thomas (Sociology) was awarded $25,000 by the Maryland State Arts Council in support of Folklore and Folklife Programming.
On 26 Sep 2019, the US Department of Education awarded $502,986 for year one of the project, Maryland Accelerates: Teacher-Leader Residency for Inclusive Excellence.
Under the direction of Boyce Williams (Dean, College of Education) and in partnership with Garrett County and Frederick County public school systems, the project is to increase the number of certified teachers in Maryland schools, especially in the sciences, mathematics and computer science, as well as to provide a career path for established teachers to mentor new educators.
